Day Events

Enjoy lots of tasty fun discovering nature’s seasonal bounty of wild foods around our estate this autumn.

Join foraging instructor Jon Tyler of Wild For Woods and Stephen David, Somerleyton’s Chef-Director on discover fascinating, diverse plantlife and fungi, both the deliciously tasty ones and those less palatable or poisonous. Our expert guide will help us uncover the hidden hedgerow world around our fields, woods, lake and parkland.  Then back at the inn, over well-deserved rest and refreshment, we will enjoy a talk and demonstration, followed by a leisurely lunch with wine.

Day Events:  Wednesday 19 October and Saturdays 8 October & 5 November between 9.30am to 4pm (approximately).

Cost:  £80 per person. Price includes breakfast on arrival, two hour foraging foray, refreshments, demonstration talk and a three course lunch with a large glass of house wine or non-alcoholic drink. Please note we will be walking long distances so good mobility is required. Warm, waterproof clothing and footwear is essential.

Weekend Breaks

Join us for a relaxing entertaining two nights of the great outdoors with dinner, bed & breakfast and Saturday foraging event.

The Fritton Arms and the peaceful natural eco-playground of the Somerleyton estate make the perfect haunt to get a taste of the wild and escape to Mother Nature on one of our foraging breaks. You will have plenty of time to explore the rich landscapes and wealth of flora & fauna on our doorstep and enjoy a guided day, foraging with our expert bushcraft mentor, Jon Tyler of Wild For Woods.

Foraging Break Dates:  Friday 7 – Sunday 9 Oct, and Friday 4 – Sunday 6 November.

Cost£575 per room for the two night break. Price includes luxury double accommodation in one of The Fritton Arms’ bedrooms or cottages with breakfast; dinner from the carte menu (based on £30 per person allocation for food); and enjoying one of our Saturday guided foraging day events including a demonstration talk and a lazy lunch with wine.

An experienced forager and bush-craft practitioner with a natural passion and enthusiasm for wildlife, wild food hedgerow food and outdoor living, Jon’s interest in wild-food began at an early age munching blackberries and sorrel leaves from the bottom of the garden. First studying conservation management at Otley College, he spent over 20 years working on environmental community, education and conservation projects.  Jon leads an array of wildlife awareness, mushroom identification and wild-food courses across East Anglia for the likes of The Forestry Commission, heritage bodies and the National Parks.
